Why Cherry Street Movement Studio?
A different approach to group fitness.
Cherry Street Movement Studio is a small group fitness and movement studio in downtown Black Mountain. Classes are designed to complement each other rather than have one type of workout try to do everything.
You don’t have to choose between a gym and a yoga studio. Strength, conditioning, Pilates, and yoga each train something different, and together they give you a more complete approach to fitness.
The goal isn’t to do everything. It’s to build a body that’s strong, resilient, and capable of doing more.
Small groups. Better coaching.
Small group classes give you the energy of working out with other people without getting lost in a crowd.
Classes are well coached, which means you’re not just following along. You get real instruction, feedback on your form, and the opportunity to learn movements and progress over time.
Why we train the way we do
Your body needs different types of training to become strong, resilient, and capable. That’s why Cherry Street programming focuses on three key areas:
Large, Fast-Twitch Muscles
We train the larger muscle groups to build overall strength. Fast-twitch muscle fibers are capable of producing a lot of force, which we use for powerful and explosive movements.
They’re also the primary muscles we target when progressively overloading a movement and challenging your body to get stronger.
Slow-Twitch + Stability Muscles
We train the muscles that help you sustain movement and keep you stable.
Slow-twitch muscle fibers are built for endurance, allowing your muscles to keep working over longer periods of time. Stability muscles help control your joints and keep you steady as you move.
Training both gives you the ability to not only produce force, but to control it and keep going, helping reduce unnecessary stress on your joints.
Core + Breath-Based Activation
Your core is more than your abs, and training it isn’t just about doing crunches.
Breath-based core activation teaches you how to use your diaphragm and deep abdominal muscles together to create support around your spine. That support gives you a stronger foundation for everything else you do—from lifting and running to hiking, practicing yoga, and everyday movement.
Different classes emphasize different pieces, but they work together to build a body that can move well, handle more, and get stronger over time.
